WHAT IS A UTILITY?

  • A "Utility" distributes Utility services to a Consumer and charges for those services.

  • Utilities are Public and Private Sector Utilities. An example of a Public Sector Utility will be a Municipal Water Distributor or a Regional or National Electricity Company. Examples of a Private Sector Utility are Property Owners, Body Corporates and Private Utility Companies.

  • From the perspective of an Org in the WeBill Field Manager Application, a Utility dispatches field instructions to be executed on its behalf by an Org. There needs to be a Contract between the Utility and the Org, and the Instructions are dispatched within the context of a Contract

  • Therefore an Org can not receive Instructions without setting up a Utility and a Contract with that Utility.

  • In WeBill other products the Utility is the focus however in the Field Manager Application the Org as the Meter Reading Company is the focus.

  • A Utility can also fulfill the function of a Meter Reading Company in this instance will dispatch Instructions to itself.

  • In the WeBill Field Manager Application it is assumed that the Utility has not registered itself as an Org with WeBill.
